Sharing Remote Labs: A Case Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
The interest on educational remote laboratories has increased, as have the technologies involved in their development and deployment. These laboratories enable students to use real equipment located in the university from the Internet. This way, students can extend their personal learning experience by testing with real equipment what they are studying at home, or performing hands-onlab sessions at night, on weekends or whenever the traditional laboratories are physically closed. A unique feature of remote laboratories when compared to traditional laboratories is that the distance of the student is not an issue, so remote laboratories can be shared with other schools or universities. In this contribution, authors present and discuss a widely spread remote laboratory (VISIR, present in 6 european universities + 1 in India) shared among 3 institutions (2 universities + 1 high school).

The need for adopting virtual and remote labs in engineering education is high in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. This paper proposes the evaluation plan of a network of remote labs in the Maghrebian countries. This plan is based on the significant research that has been done until now concerning the evaluation of remote labs. More specifically the proposed evaluation strategy of the project will...
متن کاملTowards federated interoperable bridges for sharing educational remote laboratories
Educational remote laboratories are software and hardware tools that allow students to remotely access real equipment located in the university as if they were in a hands-on-lab session. Different initiatives have existed during the last two decades, and indeed toolkits (e.g. iLabs, WebLab-Deusto or Labshare Sahara) have been developed to ease their development by providing common management fe...
متن کاملVirtual Computing Laboratories: A Case Study with Comparisons to Physical Computing Laboratories
Current technology enables schools to provide remote or virtual computing labs. Virtual computing labs can be implemented in multiple ways ranging from remote access to banks of dedicated workstations to sophisticated access to large-scale servers hosting virtualized workstations. This paper reports on the implementation of a specific lab using remote access to dedicated workstations and suppor...
متن کاملA Study on The Potential of Using Remote Labs for E-Learning Engineering Courses in Malaysian Universities
Remote lab has been considered as method that can be used to enhance e-learning, especially for engineering courses. However, in Malaysia, the application of remote labs is considered new and in most cases “unavailable”. This paper describes a study that has been carried out among Malaysian universities electrical and electronics engineering lecturers to explore the reasons for this phenomena. ...
